What the heck is that? a PDA, a laptop???
Its the OQO model 01+ and its hmmm awesome unique. Certainly not for everyone, here are the basics.
Who it's for:
If their laptop is too big but their PDA doesn't do the job...
Why they'll like it:
Only 5x3.5x1 inches and 14 ounces, the OQO 01+ is not much larger than a high-end PDA, yet it features a complete battery-powered Windows XP PC with slide-out keyboard, touch screen, USB, FireWire, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Dock the OQO 01+ to a large monitor and it becomes a worthy desktop PC (it better, because the price tag is that of a very high-end pc.)

Vinyl to CD yes with ease
The USB turntable by Ion is a great way to transfer all that classic vinyl you have in your basement. Yes 33 1/3, 45 even 78's can spin on this turntable you just connect this turntable to your pc with the usb cable, ply the record and hit record on the included software and your vinly will become digitized. You cna even use the software to remove hiss and pop if necessary. I've seen this online for as low as $115.00. I can't wait to do a review on this, I have a huge stack of lp's and access to my Dad's Richard Pryor, Commodores, Eagles, Earth, Wind and Fire and even some Hall and Oates LP collection. The usb turntable would allow me to play them through my pc.It comes with software that will digitize them. The software will convert them to mp3.

The SONY E-Reader - A BIG SHOW HIT
WOW, this is exciting, they look great and I was impressed with how easy it was to read, I even tried to put it right under a bright light and I could still see the screen well. The Sony Librie is a tremendous e-book. It uses E-Ink technology, which is so remarkably crisp that most people assume that the page on display is just a sticker (for demonstration.) In fact, unlike with a TFT display, you can view the Librie page from any angle. It comes with about 10mb of memory but you can bump up the size with the memory stick slot.
This is like new textbooks for the future. Publishers like Random House, HarperCollins Publishers & Simon & Schuster and some others are supporting and supplying the service. You will be able to get the books through the Connect Store. Interesting to see how this will play out in the education field and see what teachers and educators come out with some interesting ideas to interface and use these in the classroom. I think they will be out in the Srping or Summer this year - stay tuned.

Dave TV - Where TV and the Internet Collide - aka IPTV
This company called DAVE TV is into Internet Protocol Television or IPTV as its often called. The CEO, Kevin Lipscomb (far left) is a really smart techie. I met and interviewed him last year - he was also featured on CNBC, Cnet, Black Enterprise Magazine, Ziff-Davis TV and many other publications. He has created a new tv network that delivers all of its programming over the internet.
Watching tv daily on your computer??? Don't worry the majority of us don't either. That's why DAVE TV is working with equipment manufacturers that make TV set top boxes. So how does this work? 2 ways, both of which are pretty easy; 1. you can use the DAVE TV set top box - you plug the set top box into your tv (just like a cable box), then have the box connect to your home broadband service (dsl or cable) THAT's IT! - now just use your DAVE TV remote and navigate to watch their network. The 2nd option is to use your internet connected laptop or pc to watch their network. And yes, you can still acess all the programing you are use to BUT you can now obtain so much more and richer content. Plus, whats even better is that you can submit your own content, set the pricing and let them handle everything else. This organic approach to acquiring tv programming will flip the current top-down tv model on its head and create new opportunities for independent creative artists to offer up their content on their terms. This is going to be hot - and oh yeah you (hopefully) can expect to see me on their tech channel sometime this year.

Pre-show Press Conference
The Pre-show press conference was great - they pulled out the red carpet for this welcome reception. The reception was held at the Innovators room which had about 30 or so tech companies that were previous award winners of the CES Innovators award an award that is given to companies for the big stides they make in innovation. This is a great reception because many of the Innovator winners are startups and not the "big names". This gives the press and the smaller (more innovative) companies a chance to meet and see their products and inventions.
This is a chance to catchup with fellow press members that you haven't seen for a year - like Keith Reed writer for the Boston Globe, formally of the Baltimore Business Journal, who ran out of town because he owed me money
(which he paid up in full w/interest when he saw me (just kidding).
At this event I also met a Laurel Md based company called Powergridfitness who has an awsome workout/gaming device this is awesome for kids that sit on the couch too long.
Even Hello Kitty was there helping to promote a new guitar and amplifier technology. I think I got a little carried away.
